About Mrs. GerhardtI graduated from Michigan State University in 2005 with a BA in Elementary Education and minors in Mathematics and Earth/Space Science. Then I completed a full year of student teaching in the 4th grade at Walled Lake Consolidated Schools in 2005-2006. From there, I moved down to the Orlando, Florida area where I taught 4th grade for four years. In 2010, my husband and I decided to move back to Michigan where I grew up. I joined the Wayne-Westland team that fall, and since I have taught 6th grade for two years and 5th grade for four years here at Marshall Upper Elementary. In 2012, I completed my Master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum with a concentration in Educational Psychology at MSU. The 2016-2017 school year begins my 11th year teaching upper elementary school!

Students may redo assignments with a grade of D or E to bump it up to a C-. This should be done on a separate sheet of paper attached to the original assignment. Only incorrect responses need to be redone. |
BehaviorMarshall Upper Elementary uses the PBiS system for behavior, which begins with a 4:1 ratio of positive to negative statements made by staff in the building towards students. It consists of four colored zones:
Green: Great Behavior! Yellow: So-So, 10 minutes off recess Orange: Needs to Get Back on Track, full loss of recess and think sheet completed Red: Unacceptable behavior, phone call home or office discipline referral Many incentives are included with the PBiS program including Marshall Bucks to be spent in the classroom and at the school store, monthly PBiS parties for 3 or less yellows, and the All-Green breakfast at the end of the year. |
HomeworkStudents will receive math homework Monday through Thursday with quizzes on Fridays. They are expected to read texts of their choice for a minimum of 30 minutes nightly. Outside of that, students will be expected to bring home any assignments that they did not finish in class.
